Olfactive Practice
Olfactive Practice was synchronized around the time I began clay work and jewelry making under the name WTM decoration & boma. While olfactive work plays a role similar to a script, it is formed by conditioning the unique properties of the olfactory sense. Above all, the most significant role of this work lies in the dimension of documentation as Script does in my work.
This practice is structured through three main approaches, often intermingling: creating scents never encountered before, conceptually incorporating universally recognized aromas into the work, or treating raw materials for their symbolic meanings and aromatherapeutic roles.
Furthermore, olfactive practice is distinct from the complex concepts or languages of art; I regard each ingredient and accord as a chromatic medium, much like paint. This is significant to me because the olfactory sense connects directly to the brain without passing through the limbic system, occupying a realm that cannot be verbalized. On the other hand, since the medium of scent cannot create a certain "depth" for that very reason, I continue my work while closely observing how to navigate this through the language of art. This practice also extends to providing olfactive services under the brand name Maatter, where the scents are generally developed alongside text and imagery.
This practice takes a role across various exhibitions and projects, serving as a practice I am currently undergoing intended for the moment I wish to travel back in time to past works and moments.
