Why do I want to touch walls, materials, people?

The massage service is, in fact, an act that has grown out of a practice I've been tentatively classifying under dancer qhak(2012~)(viafldjf studio(2014~)), Mijeongee (unknown)(2015), and various gestures — tying ribbons, scattering flyers, touching lobby walls, sticking material-invitation stickers and running off, and so on. Dancer qhak knows day and night in reverse, while Mijeongee was conceived on the premise of a woman who pretends to be blind and goes around touching other people. But unlike dancer qhak, who takes on a goddess-like exterior mediated through CMYK light, color, rhinestones, dresses, and the metaphor of women's night-labor, Mijeongee appeared as a woman gone mad within ordinary daily life — a somewhat dramatized externalization of "misogyny" (reciting a "Mangled Language," wandering, touching people in order to grasp something that has gone missing from herself. Gyoyeokso, 2015).

Before dancer qhak later transformed into Receptionist R (2019, via WTM decoration & boma), she attempted, through fldjf studio, to "touch" visitors by way of fragrance at BCSMofSLSM Touching Massage SVS (ByredoBullionconsumingthemselveswithmaterialsinOff-SiteformyLucylovelystealingmemorywasforyou) (Art Sonje Off-Site, 2016). Passing through several personas and practices around 2015, this later carried into an actual hand massage service starting in 2020 — beginning with the solo exhibition Beige Men Vase & Smoking Free at Cava Life in 2020, and continuing at MMCA Performing Arts 2025: Showcase – Gathering, Art Hub Copenhagen in 2025, through Lemon LOEVVE Distribution.

In Copenhagen, I recruited clients by scattering massage service flyers around the city center. Visits from the art world made up the majority, but some clients came having seen the flyers, and that made me happy.

This service is paid, but if the person receiving the massage wants to exchange it for something else, an exchange is possible by mutual agreement. As I've mentioned before, I'm very interested in the shadow clone technique — multiplying myself so that no one knows who to strike. Surface, like how to deal with it, in other words. ... I think this is as far as I can explain it.

나는 왜 벽을, 물질을, 사람들을 만지고 싶을까?

마사지 서비스는 사실 댄서qhak(2012~), 미정이Mijeongee(unknown)(2015), 각종 제스처(리본으로 묶기, 전단지 뿌리기, 로비 벽 만지기, 물질-초대 스티커 붙이고 도망치기 등)로 잠정 분류하고 있는 실천에서 이어져 나온 행위입니다. 댄서qhak은 낮과 밤을 거꾸로 알고 있으며, 미정이는 눈이 보이지 않는 척 다른 사람을 만지고 다니는 전제로 구상되었습니다. 다만 댄서qhak이 CMYK 빛, 컬러, 라인스톤, 드레스, 여성 밤-노동의 은유를 경유해 여신화된 외향을 갖는 것과 달리, 미정이는 평범한 일상 속에서 미쳐 있는, '미소지니'를 다소간 극적으로 외현한 여성의 모습이었습니다. ('뭉어(Mangled Language)'를 읊고, 배회하며, 자신에게서 사라진 무언가를 붙잡기 위해 사람들을 만집니다(교역소, 2015)).

이후 댄서qhak은 리셉셔니스트 R(2019)로 변모하기 전, fldjf studio를 통해 《BCSMofSLSM Touching Massage SVS(Byredo Bullion consuming them selves with materials in Off Site for my Lucy lovely stealing memory was for you)》(아트선재 오프사이트, 2016)에서 향수를 매개로 방문객을 '터치'하길 시도했습니다. 2015년 전후로 이루어진 여러 페르소나와 실천을 지나, 2020년부터 이는 실제 손 마사지 서비스로 이어졌습니다. 2020년 카바 라이프에서 열린 개인전 《Beige Men Vase & Smoking Free》에서 시작해, 2025년 MMCA Performing Arts 2025: Showcase - Gathering, Art Hub Copenhagen에서는 Lemon LOEVVE Distribution을 통해 이 서비스를 진행했습니다.

코펜하겐에서는 마사지 서비스 전단지를 도심에 뿌려 손님을 모집했습니다. 이미 미술계 사람들의 방문이 주를 이루긴 했지만, 전단지를 보고 찾아온 손님들도 있었고, 그건 제게 기쁜 일이었습니다.

이 서비스는 유료지만, 마사지를 받는 사람이 다른 것과 교환하고 싶다면 합의하에 교환도 가능합니다. 매번 이야기하지만 저는 분신술에 관심이 많습니다. 그러니까 표면이요. 표면을 어떻게 다룰 것인지… 제가 설명할 수 있는 건 여기까지 인 거 같아요.
