Please Come and Play with Butterflies, If You Dare…, 2010

At the time, I wandered around stealing many things—not only books from bookstores but also various objects from stores. To prepare for “If you are brave, come and play with the butterflies…”, I stole flowerpots placed in front of strangers' houses and ordered artificial flowers to match them. This work began with a question: what and how should we truly record? I believe that the moment you say something is "here," it vanishes. I filled and decorated the empty Room 402 with those items, invited people to show them, and staged/romanticized the things that might happen or did happen during their visits into a form of script. When this play, which lasted for a month, came to an end, all the plants in the pots had withered, while the scent of artificial and soap flowers floated in the air. Model butterflies flew around the space, and for photographic records, I only took them when external elements overlapped or unexpected events occurred. I was interested in my work specifically to record a time by staging scenes, fakes and creating unpredictable accidents, cause they are not considered as an existence.

당시 많은 것들을 훔치며 돌아다녔는데, 서점에서 책은 물론이고 다루는 여러 오브제를 스토어에서 훔쳐서 가져왔습니다. <당신이 용감하다면 와서 나비와 놀아주세요…>를 위한 준비를 위해서도 모르는 집 앞에 나와 있는 화분을 훔치고 또 그에 걸맞은 조화를 주문하였습니다. 이 작업은 무엇을 어떻게 기록할 것인지 질문하며 시작되었습니다. 저는 무언가가 "여기에 있다"고 말하는 순간 그것이 사라진다고 봅니다. 비어있던 402호를 그들로 채우고 꾸미고, 사람들을 초대해 이를 보여주고, 사람들이 방문하는 과정에서 일어날 법한 일과 일어난 일을 스크립트 형식으로 무대화하였습니다. 한 달의 시간 동안 이어진 이 극이 끝날 때는 화분에 있던 식물은 모두 시들었고, 조화와 비누꽃 향기가 동동 떠다녔습니다. 이곳에는 모형 나비가 날아다녔으며, 사진 기록은 외부의 요소가 겹치거나 예상하지 못한 일(사건)을 통해서만 셔터를 눌렀습니다. 혹은 이를 기록(record)하기 위해 가짜를 놓고,  무대화를 하고, 예상치 못한 일을 만들었습니다.
